Review 11/18/2009
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I visited the Gosch Toyota in Hemet. The purpose of our visit was to inquire about the lease offer for the Toyota Camry LE. The offer at the time was $869 due at lease signing and $219/mo. We were helped by Sales Consultant Arturo Ramirez. The first thing we told Mr. Ramirez was that we were in the process of a short sale on one of our investment properties. We told him that our credit was damaged as a result of the short sale. We also told him that we heard that dealers were making exceptions when financing customers if their credit was damaged due to the housing market. At that point Sales Manager Jim Davidson began to help us. I explained our situation to Mr. Davidson and he ran it by his manager Jim Phelps. After checking with Mr. Phelps, Mr. Davidson came back with several offers, none of which made any sense to use financially. If an exception on our credit could not be made to obtain the lease offer, then we were not interested and were ready to go home, and would completely understand. No hard feelings. But Mr. Davidson kept pressing and kept bringing back offers which again were not in our favor. We repeated to him that if we could not get the advertised lease offer, we were not going to have a deal, to which Mr. Davidson replied, "you are not that customer." Mr. Davidson also said some things about Mexican people that my wife and I did not see fitting nor did we appreciate. At that point my wife and I felt very uncomfortable being there. In addition, Mr. Davidson was not very knowledgeable about his products, or he thought we were fools and hadn't done our research. He was trying to justify one of the LE models being a higher price because it had steering wheel radio controls and a power seat for the driver, both of which come standard with the LE model. I told him they were standard but he kept insisting that they were upgrades. As we walked out of the office, Mr. Davidson attempted one more time to make a sale in the parking lot. When I repeated to him that we were not going to have a deal, he said, " why are you here?" My wife and I were shocked that a Sales Manager would say that. We did not know what to say. I asked one more time for the lease offer and Mr. Davidson interrupted me and gave me a very sarcastic hand shake and said "have a nice day" as if to be kicking us out, and walked away. As Mr. Davidson was walking away, I told him that any future business between my family and Gosch was gone because what he did was rude. He turned back around and approached us aggressively and said "how was I rude, I shook your hand, how is that rude?" I told him that it was not rude but very sarcastic. He then lost control of himself and started yelling at the top of his lungs to us in front of other employees and customers. He yelled things like "I am annoyed with you guys!" and "I don't want to sale a car to you!" But what really embarrassed us, and not to mention made my wife cry, was when Mr. Davidson, a sales manager, yelled to us, "I am not going to help someone with a foreclosure on his credit report!" He yelled this in front of other employees and other customers. At that point I asked him if I could speak to his manager. His reply was "NO!". I asked again and he told me to go look for him. I found his manager Mr. Phelps and explained to him what we just went through with Mr. Davidson. He apologized and asked if there was anything he could do for me. I told him no, I just wanted to let him know how disrespectful Mr. Davidson was.

After going to another Toyota dealer, I discovered that Mr. Davidson was not only lying to us about the features on the LE model, but also the finance terms. Mr. Davidson told us that you have to pay taxes on your monthly payment, which is true; however, he also told us that we would have to pay taxes on the money that we put down at lease signing, which is untrue. He told us that even if we qualify for the $869 offer, it would really be about $940 after taxes. After making these discoveries, I called your dealer wanting to speak to Mr. Phelps, but he is always in a meeting. I asked to speak to Mr. Gosch, but was denied his contact information by his secretary. I was then referred to Diane. She told me that she would help me out and that Mr. Phelps or herself would call me back. I never received a phone call.
